Success in sports: Take it one step at a time
All you need to see is the next step
I wanted to touch upon this topic of how taking it one step at a time helps with success in sports, because I was reminded of the importance of this recently while working with a client. I have worked with many clients over the years that seem to get overwhelmed or lost because they are overly looking at the big picture. It is important to know where you want to end up and to have the big picture in mind, but you also need to just focus on each step as it comes. If you don’t the process as mentioned earlier can become overwhelming and you can start to feel like your not making any progress.
A great analogy of this is climbing Mount Everest. The big picture goal is to get to the top, but in order to do so the climbers need to focus on getting to base camp 1. In order to do that they need to just take it literally one step at a time as each step is extremely important is keeping them safe and making it there. In my video below I have another great example of this so take a look at it.
It’s okay to want to the big picture goal and to want it with every ounce of your being. Use it to motivate you, to keep you going when things get tough, because they will. However, also make sure that you don’t let it distract you, sometimes it is necessary to become a little less excited to get down to business and get done what needs to get done. So whatever your next step in your process is, try and put all your focus on it in the moment, and know that you are one step closer to where you want to go.
